In ancient Greek religion, an orgy (όργιον) was a secret nighttime cultic congregation overseen by an orgiophant (a teacher or revealer of secret rites of sexual seduction), celebrated with dancing, drunkenness, singing, etc.
In modern usage, an orgy can refer to an event which involves either group sex or where multiple couples simultaneously and indiscriminately engage in sexual activity at the one venue.
