Anal eroticism is erotic activity focusing on the anus, and sometimes the rectum. This can be pleasurable due to the abundance of nerve endings in the anus, and some of the pleasure can be derived since the anus is often a taboo area. Sigmund Freud hypothesized that it arises during childhood during the anal stage.

One feature of anal eroticism is that it can be enjoyed by both males and females, because unlike the vagina and the penis, an anus is part of the anatomy of both males and females. For men, pleasure may be derived from stimulation of the prostate, while for women, pleasure may be derived through indirect stimulation of the vagina, particularly the G-spot.
