The Sunday Times ran an article on some Singaporeans' reactions to the couple who had a quickie on a SBS bus and a fellow commuter filmed the act with a mobile phone.
Many responses, unsurprisingly, were disdainful of the couple. Well, I suppose that it's not a nice thing to have sex on the bus in front of other commuters because the couple, in exercising their freedom to have sex on the bus infringed on the freedom of other commuters to enjoy the bus journey without a live porn show.
Whether the couple did something decent, or whether the person who filmed the act did something decent might be important, but I thought that the article missed an important point. That a couple was presumably horny enough to make out on a public bus is a positive sign that at least some Singaporeans do have strong sexual urges. With a falling birth rate and low frequency of sex (as concluded by Durex sex survey), it should be good news that at least some Singaporeans are not devoid of sex hormones.
Of course, this is no excuse for having sex on a public bus. I don't really believe that the couple couldn't wait until they got off the bus to a more private place. I'm more inclined to think that the couple had a fantasy about sex on a bus and couldn't find an alternative other than SBS (or SMRT) buses. If there was a place designed like a public bus where they could satisfy their fantasy, maybe they wouldnt have done it an SBS instead (and ended up getting filmed).
If we can have new restaurants in Singapore that uses wheelchairs for seats and operating theater look alike setting for the counter, perhaps we can have hotels that cater to the sexual fantasy of Singaporeans. That way, we can keep people from having sex at staircase landings, public buses or about anywhere else people can think of. Anyone interested in starting a business?
